Seeking public assistance – late April stabbing incident in downtown Calgary

Police continue to investigate a stabbing incident that took place on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at approximately 3 p.m., near the Community Natural Foods location, in the 1300 block of 10 Ave. S.W.

Apparently, shortly after the incident took place, a number of witnesses were approached by other witnesses at the scene and given a description of the offenders and the vehicle they were driving. Unfortunately, these primary witnesses left the scene before speaking to police.

Police are also keen to locate a red Honda Odyssey that was seen in the area with black steel rims and a Stampeders logo on the back window.

At approximately 3 p.m., on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, police were called to reports that a man had been stabbed.

The victim, a 35-year-old and from Calgary, was approached by two suspects as he was entering his vehicle in the 1300 block of 10 Ave. S.W. An altercation occurred and the victim was stabbed. He was then able to drive a couple of blocks down the road to the 1000 block of 10 Ave. S.W.

He was transported by EMS to hospital where he remains in life-threatening condition. A female who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle was not injured.

The first suspect is described as an Asian man, between 25 and 35 years old, 5’10” to 6’2” tall and between 200 and 225 lbs. with an athletic build. He was wearing a grey sweatshirt and black pants.

The second suspect is described as having dark skin, between 25 and 35 years old, 5’7” to 5’10” tall with an average build.

Police are also keen to locate a red Honda Odyssey that was seen in the area with black steel rims and a Stampeders logo on the back window.

While the motive for the assault is still being investigated, police believe this was a targeted attack and are investigating to determine if it was gang-related.

Several CPS Units are involved in the investigation including the Guns and Gangs Unit.
