Seeking Public Assistance - Violent Assault

The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in identifying a man responsible for an unprovoked violent assault over the weekend.

At approximately 2 a.m., on Sunday, July 20, 2014, a 25-year-old man was with his friends in the 200 block of 12 Avenue S.W., when he was approached and punched in the face by an unknown man.

The victim and the suspect did not know one another, nor did they have a prior dispute. In this case, it is believed the assault was motiveless and perhaps a case of mistaken identity.

The victim was taken to a local hospital by his friends, where police were called. He sustained serious injuries to his face which required surgery.

The suspect left the area with a female. He is described as approximately 27 to 30 years old, 5’9” tall, 200 to 220 pounds, with a muscular build. He had short, almost balding reddish brown hair, and a two-to-three-inch reddish brown beard. He was wearing a tight white T-shirt.

The woman was approximately 5’6” tall, 115 pounds, with long dark hair and tanned skin. She was wearing a black shirt.

Several others were also present during the assault.
