Seeking Public Assistance - Thefts

The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in identifying a couple alleged to have committed several distraction thefts over the past 18 months.

In each case, the man and woman pose as diners at local restaurants and bars and while one distracts the victim, the other removes a wallet or property from a handbag which is typically hanging over a chair.

The victims in all eight cases were unaware their property had been stolen until they tried to pay for their own meals.

The first case connected to this pair occurred in June 2012, with the most recent in August 2013.

Police are releasing several images captured from surveillance video at some of the locations and are asking for help in identifying the individuals.

The male suspect is described as Hispanic, 30 to 40 years old, 5’7” to 6’ tall with dark hair. He also speaks with a Spanish accent.

The female suspect is also Hispanic, 40 to 45 years old, and approximately 5’7” tall. She has a heavy build, long black hair, and speaks with a Spanish accent. The woman is known to wear sunglasses.
