Seeking public assistance - suspicious person incidents

The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance regarding reports of a man who allegedly approached a girl in the northeast on two different occasions.

 

At approximately 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 a 12-year-old girl was walking on Edmonton Trail and 32 Avenue N.E., when she was allegedly approached by a man in a small, black sport utility vehicle with tinted windows, calling out to her. The girl recognized this male and the vehicle from a previous incident on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013. In both incidents she fled to her school and notified officials.

 

Police are investigating whether this is related to an earlier reported incident on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013.

 

In that case, a man driving a similar-looking vehicle approached a 13-year-old girl in the area of 40 Avenue and Centre Street N. He called her over, but the girl walked away and the man left the area.

 

In all three cases the man is described as Caucasian, 25 to 45 years of age, with a skinny build with brown/grey hair and a possible Spanish accent.

 

In the three incidents the vehicle was described as a black SUV with tinted windows and similar in size to a Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Escape or Honda Element.

The Calgary Police Service encourages parents to talk to their children about ways to protect themselves. This includes staying in busy, well-lit areas and if they are suspicious of someone, trust their instincts and flee the area, or scream to draw attention to themselves.
