Released on behalf of ACCPA - 2014 Fraud Prevention Month comes to a close...

The Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association (ACCPA) wholeheartedly thanks the countless people and numerous organizations that participated in this year’s Fraud Prevention Month in Alberta. The unprecedented success of the response over the past month was an important reminder that we must be vigilant all year round to prevent fraud in our community.

Fraud Prevention Month kicked-off on Friday, February 28, with a virtual event titled “Change Your Password Day.” This was a primary focus for the month because password safety is critically important to protecting privacy and security on the Internet.

What followed was the use of the hashtag #ABfraud2014, being incorporated into countless month-long tweets about fraud related events, activities, news articles and media stories.

Community events that were held during the month included displays in shopping malls and community centres, paper shredding and electronic disposal events, presentations in schools and most importantly an intensive social and traditional media campaign resulting in daily fraud prevention messages being disseminated throughout the entire province.
