Police seeking public assistance in attempted child abduction

The Calgary Police Service is investigating an attempted child abduction that occurred earlier today in the community of Varsity.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, a child was approached by an unknown male while inside a convenience store located at 4615 Valiant Drive N.W.

During the interaction, the 12-year-old victim was verbally threatened by the suspect, but managed to escape. The victim ran to a nearby school and reported the incident to police.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s, between 5’8” and 5’11” tall. He was described as having a round face with a moustache or goatee, short and balding grey hair, and brown eyes. He was wearing a brown jacket, dark pants and may have smelled of campfire and alcohol. It is possible he was driving an older model 90s, two-door, grey sedan with no licence plate.
