Police safely resolve reports of a firearm at high school

A school lockdown in southeast Calgary has been resolved without incident after three youths entered a high school with what appeared to be a handgun.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 24, 2015, the Calgary Police Service received reports of three teenage boys standing by a loading dock in the 300 block of Shawville Blvd S.E. One of the boys was observed waving what appeared to be a handgun.

Police responded immediately and found one of the boys by a nearby LRT station and determined they were students at a nearby high school. The school was immediately placed in lockdown. The last two boys were found inside and the weapon was determined to be an airsoft gun.

The three youths were taken into custody without incident and the school was released from lockdown at approximately 1:30 p.m. No one was injured during the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
