Police lay charges in relation to foster care assaults

The Calgary Police Service has laid charges in relation to a sexual assault and assault involving two children in foster care at a residence in New Brighton.

On Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, an elementary-aged girl told her teacher that a man providing her with foster care had sexually touched her on more than one occasion. She also reported that the same man had assaulted another child in his care.

Police investigated both allegations. During the investigation an elementary-aged boy living in the same house told detectives that he had been physically assaulted and shut in a dark room before being placed outside in winter weather without clothes.

When the allegations were made, all foster children were immediately removed from the residence by Siksika Family Services.

Fortunato JINON, 46, of Calgary, is charged with assault, sexual assault and sexual interference with a child under 16 years of age. He is scheduled to next appear in court on Thursday, July 2, 2015.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
