Police lay charges in armed kidnapping

The Calgary Police Service Gun and Gangs Unit has charged two men with using a gun to kidnap an individual over the weekend.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, police responded to a call from a man who reported that he was in a vehicle trying to flee from someone who had kidnapped him at gunpoint earlier that morning. Officers were able to locate the victim and immediately launched an investigation.

Police believe that the victim was lured to a residence along Pinewood Drive S.E., where his hands and feet were tied and he was held against his will. Later that morning, the victim was able to get to a vehicle and a short pursuit occurred in the community of Forest Lawn. Police located the victim a short time later, which caused the suspects to flee.

It is believed that the incident was the result of a personal dispute between the individuals and it was not random.

Ahmad Feraidoon SAFARI, 19, of Calgary, is charged with kidnapping, assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, uttering threats and three counts of being unlawfully at large.

Zharif SAFARI, 18, of Calgary, is charged with kidnapping, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.

Both men are next scheduled to appear in court today, Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015.
