Police investigating serious collision in Brentwood

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a serious collision in northwest Calgary that resulted in one man being transported to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, a taxi dropped off a fare on the north side of Northmount Drive N.W. and then attempted to turn around at Brantford Crescent N.W. While turning, the driver of the taxi entered into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was driving westbound on Northmount Drive and the vehicles collided.

The taxi was pushed to the side of the road while the Silverado was pushed into oncoming  traffic on Northmount Drive, where it then collided with a freight truck.

The driver of the Silverado, a man in his early 20s, was extricated from the vehicle by the Calgary Fire Department and was transported to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition. The other two drivers, both also men in their early 20s, were treated for minor injuries.

The investigation into this collision is ongoing, however, at this time excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be factors as police had received reports moments before the collision of a pickup truck travelling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at a nearby red light along Northmount Drive.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have information about it is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section at 403-567-4000, or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
