Police investigating fatal pedestrian collision

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in southeast Calgary on Friday morning.

At approximately 8:25 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, a 16 year-old male was crossing Erin Woods Boulevard at Erin Dale Crescent S.E. He was struck by a 30 year-old driver travelling east on Erin Woods Boulevard in a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor.

The young man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is not being released.

The Traffic Section is still investigating and the Calgary Police Service Victim Assistance Support Team was sent to the scene to assist witness and the family of the young man.

Neither alcohol or speed are considered to be factors in this collision. However, visibility (sunlight in the eyes of the driver) is considered to be a factor in this collision. Drivers are encouraged to remain extra vigilant during dawn and dusk when visibility is reduced, and to adjust their driving to match the conditions.
