Overdose Investigation

The Calgary Police Service is currently investigating the death of a young woman that may be related to street drugs.

Just before 4 a.m. today, Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, police and paramedics were called to a residence in the 1,000 block of Cranston Drive S.E., for reports of a woman in medical distress. She was transported to hospital, where she was declared deceased shortly after arrival.

It is believed that the woman and a friend were at a nightclub in the downtown area earlier in the evening where they consumed alcohol and an unknown amount of street drugs, including Ecstasy.

The friend of the deceased was also taken to hospital for treatment in non-life threatening condition.

An autopsy for the 22-year-old deceased woman will be scheduled for early next week.
