Officer injured by stolen vehicle

A member of the Calgary Police Service was injured this morning following an attempt to pull over a stolen truck.

Just after 8 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, police were called to the 5600 block of 8 Ave S.E. for reports of car prowlings. Officers in a marked police car in the area spotted a truck believed to be related to the car prowling complaint.  The officers pulled the truck over with support from another marked unit near 1 Avenue and Penworth Drive S.E.

One officer approached the male passenger, while another approached the female driver. The passenger was removed from the vehicle without incident. However, when the officer asked the woman to step out of the vehicle, she put the truck into reverse, sideswiped the officer and collided with the police vehicle, before speeding away from the scene.

The police officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The male passenger was taken into custody.

The woman and the truck, a black 2009 Silverado, are still outstanding. It is believed the truck and the license plate are stolen.  The woman is described as Caucasian, 5’6” tall with dyed red hair.
