Officer Charged
A member of the Calgary Police Service has been charged in connection with an on-duty incident that occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011.
The incident took place in the Court Services Section where the officer is alleged to have used excessive force while attempting to restrain a suspect.
The incident was investigated by the Professional Standards Section and the file was forwarded to the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor’s Office, who directed a charge of common assault be laid.
The member was charged late in the afternoon on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. He is currently suspended with pay.
As this matter was an on-duty incident, and the charges were laid as the result of the execution of his duties, the officer’s name is not being released at this time.
