Nighttime Break and Enter

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a nighttime break and enter where the homeowner was confronted in his house.

At approximately 4:45 a.m., this morning, Monday, July 8, 2013, a man woke up to find an unknown man inside his home. The suspect was carrying a knife and confronted the victim, causing minor cuts to his arm.

The two men briefly struggled before the suspect ran from the home.

Multiple units rushed to the scene in the 0-100 block of Saddlebrook Landing N.E., but were unable to track the offender.

The suspect is described as darker-skinned male, possibly of East Indian descent, approximately 25 to 30 years old, and 6’1” tall. He was wearing a black sweater, dark-grey sweatpants and a baseball cap.

It’s believed the suspect entered the home through an unlocked basement window.

The Calgary Police Service is concerned anytime someone attempts to enter an occupied residence, especially at night.

Calgarians are reminded to ensure their homes are always secured, regardless of whether or not their residence is occupied, and to immediately report any suspicious activity to police.

Always close and lock any windows that could be used to gain access to your home while you’re sleeping.

It is important to note that higher-level apartment and condo units can be susceptible to break-ins, as some thieves use ladders, or climb from balcony to balcony.
