Men Charged in Connection with Several Robberies
The Calgary Police Service has laid charges in connection with a string of robberies.
At approximately 8:15 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, two men walked in to Family Foods in the 800 block of 19 Street N.E., and one pulled out a gun. The men were able to get away with lottery tickets and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Three days later, at approximately 9 p.m., on Wednesday Oct. 2, 2013, it’s alleged the same man accompanied by an accomplice, forced their way into the Real Canadian Wholesale Club in the 200 block of 58 Avenue S.E., and threatened two employees with a knife. A third employee was able to scare off the suspects, but not before they made off with two purses and other personal belongings from the employees.
The third robbery occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at 9:30 p.m., when two men entered the Basha Food International in the 2700 block of Sunridge Way N.E. The store was closed at the time, and the suspects pried open the door.
Armed with a knife and a screwdriver, the pair approached an employee and forced him to take them to the store’s office. Once inside, the suspects accessed a safe and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The employee was assaulted during the robbery and sustained minor injuries.
The last robbery occurred at approximately 9:50 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at the No Frills Grocery Store in the 800 block of 85 Street S.W. In this case, three offenders walked into the store and began yelling at the employees. One of the suspects had a handgun, one a hammer and the other a wrench.
The store’s security guard was struck with the hammer, knocking him to the ground while the two other suspects went upstairs and robbed the cash office.
While several suspects remain outstanding, police have arrested two men in connection with these robberies.
Keith Donald ALCOCK, 33, has been charged in connection with all four robberies. He faces 25 robbery and weapons-related offences.
