Men Charged in Connection with Remand Centre Assault

The Calgary Police Service has charged one man and issued warrants for the arrest of another in connection with an assault at a local detention centre.

At approximately 6:20 p.m., on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, emergency crews responded to the Calgary Remand Centre, 12220 85 St. N.W., for reports of an inmate in medical distress.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries as the result of an assault and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Although well enough to leave hospital several months later, the victim suffered permanent injuries as a result of the assault.

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, investigators arrested a former cellmate of the victim. Justin Brett DECOUX, 21, of Calgary, is charged with aggravated assault.

Warrants for aggravated assault have also been issued for Kei Hu MANG, 21. MANG, who was also a cellmate of the victim, has been released from custody since this incident and his whereabouts are unknown.

MANG is described as Asian, 5’8” tall, 138 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. A photo of MANG is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.
