Man Dies Following Assault

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit is currently investigating an overnight assault that resulted in the death of a man.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., emergency crews were called to the 200 block of 10 Avenue S.W., for reports of a man needing medical assistance.

When crews arrived, they found an 18-year-old man suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he died at around 10 a.m.

While details remain limited, it is believed the victim was involved in at least one altercation outside of a downtown bar. Detectives are currently trying to determine who was involved and at what point the victim suffered the fatal injuries.

Investigators have a 20-year-old man in custody and are currently interviewing several witnesses. No charges have been laid.
