Man Charged with Voyeurism

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man in relation to an incident at a southeast bus stop yesterday.

Between 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, and 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, a suspicious man was observed in the bushes at the corner of New Brighton Drive S.E. and New Brighton Manor S.E. When the man left the area, a witness located a camera that had been placed in the bushes to allegedly record students waiting at the bus stop.

A short time later, police were called and located a man in a vehicle at the scene. He was taken into custody without incident. Investigators quickly learned the man had left his two-year-old daughter at home alone while he was setting up and operating the video camera.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with voyeurism and unable or unwilling to provide the child with adequate care of supervision under section 1(2.1)(c) of the Alberta Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act. To protect the identity of the two-year-old child, the accused’s name will not be released.

The accused was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to next appear in court on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013.
