Man Charged in Homicide Investigation

A man has been charged in relation to a homicide that occurred on the weekend.

At approximately 8 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015, police were called to the 10300 block of Macleod Trail S.W., for reports of a man in medical distress. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in a parking lot. He was declared deceased at the scene.

The victim was identified as Rodney CONWAY, 44, of Calgary. Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, it has been determined that CONWAY died as a result of a shooting.

Investigators believe the victim met a man known to him in a parking lot close to where he was found. An altercation occurred and the victim was shot.

On Monday, April 20, 2015, Joshua Jayson MATECHUK, 25, of Calgary, was arrested in a vehicle in northeast Calgary without incident. He was charged at that time with five firearms offences.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2015, MATECHUK was charged with second-degree murder. He will next appear in court on Thursday, April 23, 2015.
