Man charged in death of daughter

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has charged a man with the death of a four-year-old girl.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, emergency crews were called to a home in the 0-100 block of Erin Ridge Road S.E., for a report of a four-year-old girl in medical distress.

The child, identified as Olive Rebekah OLUWAFEMI, was in cardiac arrest and wasn’t breathing when crews arrived. She was transported to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Olive’s death was deemed a homicide in January 2015. At the time, investigators believed the injuries that caused her death were inflicted within the family home, and were not the result of play, an accident such as falling down stairs, nor medical intervention consistent with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Olive’s father, Oluwatosin OLUWAFEMI, 39, of Keswick, Ontario, was arrested while in Ontario on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, and flown back to Calgary. He was charged early this morning, Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, with second-degree murder and will next appear in court on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015.

The Calgary Police Service would like to thank York Regional Police for their assistance in this investigation.
