Man charged in bank robbery

The Calgary Police Service Robbery Unit has charged one man in relation to a bank robbery that occurred yesterday, Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., a man entered the ATB located in the 900 block of 85 Street S.W., and approached a teller. He produced a robbery note and was given an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the bank. No one in the bank was injured during the robbery.

The suspect left the parking lot in a red hatchback at a high rate of speed. A police unit responding to the bank robbery spotted the vehicle but did not engage. HAWCS Helicopter observed the vehicle from a distance and provided assistance to ground units.

After causing two minor collisions, the suspect’s vehicle became involved in a collision at the intersection of 17 Avenue and Sarcee Trail S.W. The suspect, as well as a female passenger who had been in the vehicle, fled on foot. Officers arrived on scene and took both individuals into custody.

James Andrew BOISSE, 31, of Calgary has been charged with one count of robbery. He will next appear in court on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015. The female passenger was released and is not expected to be charged in relation to this incident.

The CPS Robbery Unit continues to investigate.

The CPS Traffic Section is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collisions and dangerous driving. Further charges are pending.
