Man charged - Nighttime break-ins

The Calgary Police Service has charged a Calgary man in relation to several nighttime break-ins.

The CPS issued a news release last week after receiving four reports of break-ins in the area of Bonaventure Drive and Heritage Drive S.E. The incidents took place between 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, and 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.

Another incident that took place in the same area and time period was later reported to police.

During the investigation, officers learned these incidents were likely related to two attempted break-ins on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, in the 500 block of 18 Ave. S.W., and Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 in the 200 block of Shawville Way S.E.

Based on information gathered during the course of the investigation, officers from Districts 1 and 6 arrested a man without incident on the evening of Friday, Oct. 11, 2013.

Tyler Lee WAPEGAN, 26, of Calgary, has been charged with seven counts of break and enter.

The CPS is concerned anytime someone attempts to enter an occupied residence, especially at night.

Calgarians are reminded to ensure their homes are always secured, regardless of whether or not their residence is occupied, and to immediately report any suspicious activity to police.

It is important to remember that higher-level apartment and condo units can be susceptible to break-ins, as some thieves use ladders, or climb from balcony to balcony.
