Major drug seizure

A Calgary Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit operation has led to the seizure of drugs, including methamphetamine, with a street value of over $1.18 million.

In July 2013, the CPS initiated an investigation after officers received information that the drug trafficking activities of a certain group of individuals posed a high risk to public safety.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, CPS officers arrested two men in a northeast Calgary parking lot.

Officers searched two related vehicles. Over 10 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, approximately 260 grams of crack cocaine and almost $9,500 in cash was discovered in the first vehicle. In the second vehicle, investigators located additional quantities of methamphetamine, powder cocaine and crack cocaine, a loaded .22 calibre handgun with an extended magazine, a GPS tracking device, two-way radios, gloves and balaclavas, an axe, baton, hammer, pry bar and two bats.

In total, police seized the following quantity of drugs:

10.56 kg of methamphetamine (street value of $1,056,000)

1263.1 grams of cocaine (street value of $126,300)

14.8 grams of crack cocaine (street value of $1,500)

This is believed to be the largest seizure of methamphetamine in Calgary to date.

Jason Quinn ANTONIO, 38, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of proceeds of crime.

Further drug and weapons charges are pending.

Jose Rodolfo CRUZ RIVERA, 59, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of trafficking a controlled substance.
