Homicide Update: Man Charged with First-Degree Murder

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has charged a man with the murder of a 31-year-old woman.

Thanks to tips from the public, investigators were able to identify a man who is alleged to have been with the victim, Dawns Echoes BAPTISTE, in the hours before her death.

BAPTISTE was located by a member of the public just after 3 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015. Her body was found in a yard in the 0 to 100 block of Whitworth Road N.E. Police are not releasing the cause of her death, but have ruled it a homicide - Calgary's fifth of 2015.

Late Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, officers arrested Curtis Jade Tyson HEALY, 25.

It's alleged HEALY met BAPTISTE on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, and the two spent the evening traveling to various areas of the city via the CTrain. Just before midnight, the pair got off the train at the Whitehorn Station and walked into the community.

It's believed an altercation occurred, whereby BAPTISTE was assaulted and dragged into a nearby yard where she was sexually assaulted and later succumbed to her injuries.

HEALY, who was charged late Sunday evening with first-degree murder, is next scheduled to appear in Calgary Provincial Court tomorrowTuesday, Feb. 17, 2015.
