Homicide charge

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has charged a man in relation to a homicide that occurred earlier this month.  
 
At approximately 6 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, emergency crews responded to the 0-100 block of Taradale Close N.E., for reports of a man in medical distress. A man was found suffering from injuries as a result of a stabbing. He was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

The victim was identified as Matthew John BROWN, 30, of Calgary.

Detectives determined that BROWN, who lived in the home, had been hosting a small house party when an altercation broke out. The altercation escalated and resulted in BROWN being stabbed.
 
During the course of the investigation, police identified a person of interest and were seeking to speak with that person.

On the evening of Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, a man turned himself in at the CPS Westwinds Campus. He has since been charged in relation to this incident. 

Walker Eli RISLING, 23, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of second degree murder. 

His first court appearance will be Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at 9 a.m.
