Fatal Traffic Collision

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Friday, May 29, 2015, in the intersection of 15 Avenue S.E., and MacLeod Trail S.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., a 27-year-old male driving a 2007 Jeep Liberty SUV was attempting to turn left onto northbound MacLeod Trail S. An 82-year-old female pedestrian was walking south on the west sidewalk of MacLeod Trail S., approaching the intersection of 15 Avenue S.E.

The pedestrian was crossing 15 Avenue S.E., when the Jeep merged onto MacLeod Trail S., and struck her. The pedestrian was trapped by the vehicle for a short period of time before she was rescued and transported to hospital. She has since succumbed to her injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating.
