Fatal injury motorcycle collision

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that took place this morning, Friday, May 23, 2014.

At approximately 5 a.m., a 56-year-old man was operating a 2010 Honda VT1300 motorcycle northbound in the 21800 block of Macleod Trail. He was traveling in the left lane.

At that time, a deer entered his travel path from the center median or left side of the northbound travel lanes. The man braked for a distance of approximately 20 meters prior to striking the deer. The motorcycle went onto its left side and slid to its final rest with the man still on the motorcycle.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deer was thrown to the right and came to final rest in the middle northbound travel lane, slightly ahead of the motorcycle.  The deer received fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

It does not appear that speed or alcohol contributed to this collision.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating the incident.  Any witnesses to the collision or the events leading up to it are asked to contact the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000.
