Fatal Injury Collision

On August 19, 2015 at approximately 14:30 hours, a Kenworth semi-tractor  towing two tanker trailers was traveling westbound on Stoney Trail N.W. just west of the Sarcee Trail overpass in the far right travel lane.  It was traveling at approximately 35-40 kph as it was fully loaded.  This was being operated by a 60 year old male.

At the same time a 54 year old male was operating a 2015 Ford Expedition westbound as well and drove into the rear of the semi-tractor trailer unit at a high rate of speed.  There was considerable underride as the Ford Expedition engaged with the tractor trailer unit.

The operator of the Expedition was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The operator of the Kenworth semi-tractor was not injured.  It is felt that a medical condition may have contributed to the operator of the Expedition driving into the Semi-tractor trailer.
