Fatal Injury Collision

On Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at approximately 9:36 p.m., a fatal single vehicle collision occurred just south of the Deerfoot Trail and Southland Drive S.E. interchange.

A 2001 Nissan Maxima, operated by a 33-year-old woman, was southbound in the 9700 block of Deerfoot Trail S.E. travelling at a high rate of speed. The Nissan lost control, rotated clockwise and went off the road to the right. The Nissan tumbled and rolled for approximately 80 metres towards the southwest and came to rest upside down on the Maple Ridge Golf Course.

An unknown adult female passenger was ejected from the Nissan as it tumbled through the green space and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was extracted from the Nissan and was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre with serious injuries.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating the incident. Speed and alcohol appear to have been factors in the collision.

Any witnesses to the accident, or the events leading up to it, are asked to contact the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000.

Case #15161085 refers.
