Fatal Collision Investigation

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that occurred this morning at the intersection of 11 Street and Portland Street S.E.

On Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at approximately 8 a.m., a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by a 21-year-old man, was northbound on 11 Street S.E., approaching Portland Street.

A 2007 International five-ton truck, operated by a 42-year-old man, was southbound on 11 Street S.E., approaching Portland Street.

The truck turned left in front of the approaching motorcycle in order to head eastbound on Portland Street. The operator of the Yamaha braked quickly, but struck the right side of the truck and was knocked off his motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Neither of the occupants in the truck were injured.

Speed appears to have been a factor in the collision.
