Fatal Collision
The Calgary Police Service is currently on scene of a fatal collision.
At approximately 12:40 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on northbound Deerfoot Trail near the Airport Trail exit.
A 46-year-old man was driving a Ford F350 truck northbound on Deerfoot when he lost control on the icy roadway and slid into the post-and-wire barrier separating directional traffic on Deerfoot. His vehicle came to rest near the road’s edge, and he walked around his vehicle assessing the damage.
At this time, a 54-year-old man along with his female passenger, approached in a Pontiac Montana minivan. The driver of the minivan also lost control on the ice, and the vehicle struck the man who was standing outside of his vehicle near the travel lane.
The man was transported to hospital, but died from his injuries shortly after arrival.
Alcohol was not a factor in this collision. Speed relative to road conditions may have been a factor. No decision has yet been made in relation to charges.
