Fatal collision

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning, Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. a 53-year-old male was driving a 2007 grey Chevrolet Silverado westbound in the centre lane of 16 Avenue N.E., crossing the intersection of 68 Street N.E.

As the vehicle continued westbound it lost control and rotated counter-clockwise. It entered the median traffic lane, then the emergency shoulder, over the grass median. It made contact with the post and cable barrier, flipping over and coming to rest on its roof.

The driver sustained minor injuries. The front seat passenger, a 77-year-old female, sustained serious injuries.

The rear passenger, an 88-year-old male was pinned in the vehicle and was required to be extracted.  He was unresponsive at the scene and was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision. Speed is being investigated as a factor at this time.

Any witnesses to the collision or the events leading up to it are asked to contact the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000.
