Fatal Collision - Deerfoot Trail
At approximately 0150 hours on Saturday the 24th August 2013, a fatality collision occurred in the northbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail in the vicinity of Airport Trail.
At that time, an Audi A4, being operated by a 21 year old male was traveling in the right hand lane of Deerfoot Trail. As he passed over Airport Trail, a pedestrian encroached in to the path of the Audi from the left hand side. The driver was unable to take avoiding action and struck the pedestrian. The driver brought his vehicle to a controlled stop on the right hand shoulder.
The pedestrian, a 26 year old male, sustained a compound fracture to his right leg & fatal head injuries and died at the scene.
Speed is not considered to be a factor in the collision. Alcohol is being investigated on behalf of the pedestrian as a possible factor. Pedestrian conspicuity and a failed street light in the vicinity of the collision are considered to be factors in the collision.
