Early morning traffic fatality

At approximately 3 a.m., this morning, Tuesday, June 11, 2013, a fatal traffic collision occurred in the 7000 block of Shaganappi Trail N.W.

 

A City of Calgary street sweeper was travelling northbound in the 7000 block of Shaganappi Trail N.W. when an Acura MDX, also travelling northbound on Shaganappi Trail, approached the street sweeper from behind in the left-hand lane. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the Acura veered to the right colliding with the street sweeper. The Acura deflected off of the street sweeper and both vehicles came to rest a short distance away.

 

The driver of the Acura, a 29 year old male, died at the scene. The driver of the street sweeper sustained minor injuries.

 

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating this incident. It is believed that alcohol and speed may have been factors in this collision.
