E-data Destruction Day

Have you ever wondered what to do with that old computer you never use, or that old cell phone that won’t even turn on anymore? Throwing them in the garbage can lead to a breach of your privacy, and theft of personal information.

As part of Fraud Prevention Month, the Calgary Police Service, in partnership with the Electronic Recycling Association, is hosting E-data Destruction Day at Chinook Centre on Saturday, March 9, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will take place in the southeast parking lot closest to Macleod Trail and Kal Tire.

E-data Destruction Day has become a national event with Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto all hosting events on the same day.

The public are invited to bring their electronic equipment for free data wipe and secure destruction. This can include items such as:

hard drives
laptops/desktops
CDs/DVDs
printers
fax machines
cellphones
routers/servers
thumbdrives

Please note, paper products will not be able to be processed at this event.

Owners will be able to watch their equipment being destroyed, and all hazardous and toxic materials will be handled in an environmentally sensitive manner, keeping it out of landfills.

After the secure data is destroyed, other parts of the equipment will be recycled and donated into the community to assist local non-profit organizations.
