Drug Trafficking Operation Nets More Than 100 Lbs. of Marijuana

The Calgary Police Service Drug Unit has charged two people in connection with a large marijuana seizure.

Working off a tip earlier in the year, CPS officers initiated an investigation which led to a major arrest and seizure late last week.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined a large quantity of processed marijuana was being transported from British Columbia to Alberta. On Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, officers conducted a traffic stop on two vehicles in a northwest parking lot.

Two people – a man and woman – were taken into custody and roughly 120 pounds of marijuana was seized from the vehicles. The drugs were contained in dozens of heat-sealed packages, and then stashed in black garbage bags.

The approximate street value of the drugs is $535,500.

Sandra Pearl DALPE, 61, of Chestermere, is charged with trafficking cannabis marijuana and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Douglas Paul HRYNIW, 51, of Calgary, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
