Downtown Suspicious Death

The suspicious death of a man in downtown Calgary this weekend is currently under investigation by the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.

At approximately 11:15 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, police were called to the 700 block of 12 Avenue S.W. for reports of a disturbance in an alley. Upon arrival a man was found deceased.

The victim’s identity and cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending an autopsy that is now scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015.

Investigators believe the victim met with an individual and that an altercation took place. The victim was robbed of his bag and the offender fled on foot. There is nothing to indicate this was a random attack and it is believed drugs may have played a role.

Anyone who was in the area at the time is asked to contact police by calling the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877. Tips can also be left anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers using any of the following methods:
