Domestic Incident Results in Human Trafficking Investigation and Charges

A Calgary man is now facing charges following a human trafficking investigation where a woman was being prostituted via an online advertising site.

In April, 2013, CPS patrol officers responded to a domestic assault complaint in the downtown core. Upon interviewing the victim, the Vice Unit was called in and began an investigation into allegations of human trafficking. Following a two month investigation, a local man was arrested Thursday June 13, 2013, without incident.

Mohamed KASSIM 27, of Calgary, has been charged with trafficking in persons, receiving material benefit from trafficking in persons, living off the avails of prostitution, procuring, extortion, forcible confinement, assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Mr. Kassim is currently in custody and will make a court appearance on Monday, June17, 2013.
