Dog owner fined for attack on police officer

Calgary Animal & Bylaw Services today laid charges against the owner of a dog that attacked a Police officer in Abbeydale on October 18.

During the incident, the police officer shot and killed the dog.

“This is a very serious offence and our investigation has determined that a mandatory court appearance is warranted,” said Alvin Murray, Manager of North Operations for Animal & Bylaw Services.

The owner was charged under the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw with owning a dog that bit a person; having an unleashed dog; and having an animal at large. In court, a judge can issue fines as high as $10,000.

A court date has not yet been set.
