Dangerous driving incident

Charges are pending after a man was seen driving dangerously through parts of Calgary today.

Just before 4 p.m., on Monday, April 7, 2014, the Calgary Police Service received a report that a man had committed a theft from a large retail outlet in the 4100 block of 126 Avenue S.E. 

He allegedly left the area in a Honda Accord.

The vehicle was observed to be driven through areas of southeast Calgary in a dangerous manner, including crossing center medians, driving into oncoming traffic, on sidewalks and through school zones at a high speed. 

Officers maintained a safe distance and did not chase the vehicle. Methods were used to track the vehicle’s actions, including air support from HAWCS. Marked units attempted to stay out of sight of the vehicle, yet it continued to be driven in a dangerous manner. 

The vehicle collided with a chain link fence in the 2800 block of 9 Avenue S.E. and the suspect attempted to flee on foot. Officers chased the man and were quickly able to arrest him. 

The man did not require treatment or transport for injuries. 

The vehicle was determined to be stolen. 

Officers continue to investigate, and are working to determine whether there were any collisions caused as a result of this incident. There have been no injuries reported as a result of this incident.
