Crime Stoppers re-enactment - fraudulent credit card activity

A Crime Stoppers re-enactment will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at 10 a.m., to remind the public of the importance of reporting fraudulent credit card activity.

Credit card skimming devices are placed onto gas pump card readers for a series of a few days. Returning later to retrieve this device, the suspects download the credit card data onto counterfeit credit cards. These cards are then used for large dollar amount purchases. 

The public is urged to be vigilant about checking for skimming devices when using outdoor payment terminals at gas stations. This is done by gently tugging at the card insert slot to ensure that there is no additional device attached to the gas pump card reader. Always remember to protect your PIN and check your credit or debit card statements for any suspicious activity.
