Crime Stoppers Re-enactment - 2003 Hit and Run Fatality

A Crime Stoppers re-enactment will take place on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, to encourage members of the public to come forward with information relating to a pedestrian hit and run fatality that took place ten years ago.

On Thursday, April 17, 2003, Benjamin Matuling, a retired Calgarian, originally from the Philippines, was killed in a hit and run collision.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. that evening, Matuling was walking home after attending Easter mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral. While crossing the intersection in the marked crosswalk of 2 St. and 21 Ave. S.W., heading westbound, an unknown southbound vehicle hit Matuling causing major injuries resulting in Mr. Matuling’s death a few hours later.

The unknown vehicle, observed by witnesses who had come to the aid of Mr. Matuling, is described as a red two-door car with tinted windows. The vehicle fled the scene immediately after hitting the victim.
