CPS investigates carjacking, vehicle thefts and robberies
The Calgary Police Service is investigating a carjacking, motel robbery and car theft that occurred this morning, which may be related to several other incidents.
On Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, a woman was in her car, exiting a garage in the 6000 block of Bow Cr. N.W., when a man and a woman approached her, and entered the vehicle.
The victim was threatened with a weapon and forced into the backseat of the vehicle. She was robbed of personal items and let out of the vehicle a block away. She was uninjured.
On Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at approximately 7:15 a.m., CPS received a report of a robbery at the Days Inn at 4420 16 Ave. N.W.
An employee at the front desk of the hotel had been robbed by a man and a woman of Aboriginal descent. The suspects fled out of the front door of the hotel.
Several CPS units responded to contain the area.
Shortly after, the vehicle was found abandoned at Bow Cr. and Bowness Rd. N.W., after it had crashed into guard rail on the Shouldice Bridge. It is believed the suspects had fled on foot through the park.
The vehicle was the same one stolen during the carjacking.
Just before 8 a.m., a SUV was stolen while it was parked and idling unattended in the 6200 block of 31 Ave. N.W. the vehicle was located a short time later, in the 3000 block of 67 St. N.W.
It is believed these three cases are all related.
Officers are currently looking at any available CCTV footage relating to today’s incidents.
Investigators are also working to determine whether these incidents are related to several other commercial robberies and vehicle thefts that have occurred in various areas of the city.
On Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 11 p.m., a man armed with a weapon robbed the Petro Canada at 8420 Bowfort Rd. N.W. His identity was concealed with a scarf and a hoodie. He got into the passenger side of a stolen, black Subaru and left the area.
On Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, a man and a woman robbed the Liquor Barn at 5032 16 Ave. N.W., at approximately 9:50 p.m. It is believed they fled the area on foot. The suspects are described as possibly being of Aboriginal descent.
The next day, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at approximately 5:40 a.m, the Bowness 7-Eleven was robbed by three people. One of the suspects produced a weapon during the robbery. They fled in a stolen black Subaru. The three suspects wore scarves and hoodies, and were described as being of Aboriginal descent.
The vehicle was found abandoned later that day.
On Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a man entered the Liquor Barn at 5032 16 Ave. N.W. He exited without paying for his selected items. He is described as Aboriginal, 5’8” tall, with short, black hair, wearing glasses, a black hoodie and black pants. He entered a red truck, which was later determined to be stolen.
Also on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a man and a woman robbed the Shell Station located at 166 Crowfoot Ga. N.W. The woman produced a weapon during the incident. Both suspects are described as being of Aboriginal descent.
On the same day, at approximately 10:30 p.m., three people robbed the Ambassador Motel at 802 16 Ave. N.E. They fled in a stolen red Ford truck. Two of the suspects are described as an Asian man and woman, and there is no description for the third offender.
Later that evening, at approximately 11:15 p.m., two men robbed the Panago Pizza at 5308 17 Ave. S.W. The suspects were described as Caucasian, with their faces concealed by bandanas and scarves. They fled the area in a stolen red Ford truck.
The truck was found abandoned a short time later.
