CPS Honours Volunteers of 25 Years

Twenty-five years ago tomorrow, a group of volunteers came together to support the Calgary Police Service security efforts when the eyes of the world were on Calgary for the 1988 Winter Olympics.

 

Today, 76 of these volunteers are still together and have donated over 29,375 hours of their own time as the Special Projects Team of the CPS Volunteer Resource Team.

 

These every-day citizens have worked on over 825 projects, including the 1990 Queen Elizabeth II visit to Calgary, the G8 Summit, the World Police and Fire Games, International Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, and numerous other conferences and events. This team also assists with internal training such as mock disasters, investigation scenarios and over 70 police recruit graduations.

 

The CPS would like to honour these volunteers for their outstanding contribution to the Service, and the safety of Calgary.
