Correction - attempted carjackings

Please note, the attempted carjackings were took place in northwest Calgary, not northeast as the original release stated. The corrected release is below:

On Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at approximately 11:25 a.m., the Calgary Police Service received reports of a suspicious vehicle in the Aspen Woods area of southwest Calgary.

When units arrived, a man was seen running from a nearby house, into a vehicle that is believed to have been stolen. He then fled the area at a high rate of speed.

CPS vehicles did not pursue, however officers were able to track the movement of the vehicle from a safe distance.

The suspect used the vehicle to block traffic on westbound 16 Avenue at Stoney Trail N.W. He got out of the car, and unsuccessfully attempted to carjack several other vehicles. Some of the vehicles continued to drive past him.

CPS units moved in and the man was taken into custody without incident. Charges are pending.

Because several of the vehicles continued driving, police are asking anyone who was a victim of an attempted carjacking to contact them, by calling 403-266-1234.

It is also believed there may have been one or more home break-ins or attempted break and enters in the Aspen area, related to this incident. Any victims of a break-in should also call police.
