CopShop Helps Make Holiday Wish Lists Come True

The Calgary Police Service and Marlborough Mall are once again getting set to help make the holidays a little brighter for some well-deserving local youth.  More than 30 officers from CPS will be arming themselves with wish lists for 27 specially chosen youth as part of the eighth annual CopShop initiative. The event which takes place tomorrow, December 11 at 10 a.m. at Marlborough Mall, aims to help build positive relationships between local youth and the CPS.

This year, CPS officers will play the role of personal shoppers to local children who were individually selected to participate in the holiday event. The children chosen for CopShop were recommended by a variety of sources and were selected based on need, recognition of specific academic or sports achievement or because of volunteer efforts that are making a difference in the community.

Each child will receive a $200 gift card donated by Marlborough Mall and a stocking filled with goodies from generous mall stores.

“Marlborough Mall is dedicated to giving back to the community and is proud to partner, once again, with the Calgary Police Service on this great initiative that benefits the community,” said Kim Wiltse, Marketing Director, Marlborough Mall. “The opportunity to participate in CopShop and help the CPS make the holidays brighter for some well-deserving youth and their families, is something that we are honored to be a part of.”

CPS Const. Andy Woodward and a crew of officers will welcome the youth at Marlborough Mall food court and shortly after be matched up for their shopping excursion. Youth can use their gift cards to purchase winter clothing, toys and holiday gifts for their family and friends.

Launched in 2005, at a Halifax Sopping Centre, CopShop events have been adopted by 20 VIC Management centers across the country including locations in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia.
