Competition launched to raise awareness of impaired driving

The Calgary Police Service is launching a competition to try and encourage members of the public to spread the word about the dangers of impaired driving.

At the center of the campaign are two emotional videos telling the story of an impaired-related collision that claimed the life of a talented WHL goalie, who is also the godchild of Calgary Police Service member Const. Randy MacDonald.

In 2008, Mike Maniago, who played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, was killed in an impaired-related collision when he and his younger brother were going out for pizza. Mike’s Jetta was hit by a vehicle turning left on Marquis of Lorne Trail S.E. He died instantly.

Mike is just one of dozens of Calgarians killed in recent years in imapired-related collisions.

Members of the public are being encouraged to share their videos and spread the message through social media. By sharing the competition link, each person is entered into a prize draw to win one of four ride-alongs with the Calgary Police Service.
