City Services: Holiday Season 2016

The City of Calgary is adjusting its hours of operation for services and facilities during the holiday season.

Getting Around

Calgary Transit  

Saturday, Dec. 24

No changes to service.

Sunday, Dec. 25
(Christmas)

Service is free all day!

CTrain: Trains run every 15 minutes throughout the day, then every 30 minutes from 10 p.m.–12:30 a.m.

Bus: Service every 30-45 minutes on Routes 1, 3, 14, 20, 72, 73, 100, 300, 301 and 302.

Monday, Dec. 26

Sunday level of service for both CTrain and buses.

Saturday, Dec. 31
(New Year’s Eve)

CTrain: Extended night service with last train leaving downtown at 3 a.m.Trains running every 15 minutes.

Bus: Extended night service on Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 17, 24, 112, 301 and 302. These buses will run every 30-45 minutes. Last trips will leave downtown at approximately 3:00 a.m. Have a look at our New Year's Eve service information.

Sunday, Jan. 1
(New Year’s Day)

Sunday level of service for both CTrain and buses.

Monday, Jan. 2

Regular weekday service resumes.

Parking
On-street parking is free on Dec. 25, Dec.26 and Jan 1. Holiday rates will be in effect on these days for all Calgary Parking Authority parkades and select surface lots. Regular rates will be in effect at the Calgary Zoo, TELUS Spark and Heritage Park.

Around the House
Residential Garbage & Recycling Collection
Collection will take place as regularly scheduled during the holiday season.

City Landfills
All three City-operated landfills are closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Landfills are open on Dec. 26. The full holiday schedule is available on Calgary.ca.

Christmas tree recycling
This year The City's Christmas Tree Recycling program will be drop-off only. Trees will not be collected roadside. Please recycle your real Christmas trees by taking them to one of the 16 designated drop-off locations between Dec. 26 and Jan. 31. Visit Calgary.ca/ChristmasTree for more information.

Facility Closures
Administrative Offices
Administrative offices, including City Hall, will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 23. The offices are closed on Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.

Aquatics and Fitness Centres
All aquatic and fitness centres are closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1. Hours of operation between Dec. 24 and Jan. 2 will vary.

Leisure Centres
Both Southland and Village Square Leisure Centres are closed on Dec. 25 and Dec. 26. Both leisure centres are open on Jan. 1 from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Hours of operation between Dec. 24 and Jan. 2 will vary.

Arenas
With the exception of advanced bookings, all arenas are closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Regular hours apply to all other days.

Calgary Soccer Centre
The Calgary Soccer Centre is closed from noon on Dec. 24 through Dec. 26. The centre will be open for advance bookings only from Dec. 27 to Jan. 1. Check the field availability page for up-to-date information.

Art Centres
Wildflower Arts Centre is closed from noon on Dec. 22 through Jan. 3.
The North Mount Pleasant and Arts Centre are closed from Dec. 23 though Jan. 9.

Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and Nature Centre
The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and Nature Centre is closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1, as per regular hours.

Calgary Zoo/Zoo Lights
The Calgary Zoo is closed on Dec. 25. Zoo Lights are open nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Jan. 8, 2017, but will be closed on Dec. 25.

Fort Calgary
Fort Calgary
is closed Dec. 24, 25, 26, 31 and Jan. 1.

New Year’s Eve
 

New Year’s Eve 2017 – Official kickoff to Canada 150
The City of Calgary is proud to partner with Canadian Heritage to host celebrations for Southern Alberta, commemorating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. To officially kick off the sesquicentennial year, Calgary is hosting a spectacular New Year’s Eve celebration on Dec. 31. Activities will be hosted in both English and French.

7 p.m.: Activities indoors and outdoors beginMunicipal Building: glow-in-the-dark dance party complete with crafts, bouncy castle, stilt walkers, magician.Olympic Plaza: family skating, live ice carvings, fire spinning, an ice slide, and creative light-based art installations. Musical entertainment including a performance from Canadian rock band 54.40.

9 p.m.: Kids’ countdown at Municipal Building
Midnight: Countdown broadcast live from Olympic Plaza on CTV and fireworks off the Municipal Building.

New Year’s Eve for families at the Leisure Centres
Play, swim, jump, splash and slide into 2017 at Southland and Village Square Leisure Centres! Bring the whole family for tons of fun. Come for arts and crafts, games, obstacle courses, bouncy house and our “take a selfie” photo booth! Then join us in the water park where there will be a DJ pumping out the tunes as families enjoy the wave pool, slides, hot tub and safari splash! Stay until the very end to enjoy our pool party countdown!
