Charges pending in Whitehorn suspicious death

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has arrested an individual in connection with a homicide that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the community of Whitehorn.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, police and EMS were called to a residence in the 0-100 block of Whitmire Bay N.E. after it was reported that someone was deceased inside. Upon arrival, responders found a woman in her late 20s deceased in the basement of the home and deemed the death to be suspicious.

The autopsy confirmed that the death was a homicide and the victim has been identified as Janel SQUIRREL, 26, of Calgary.

Police have a suspect in custody and charges are pending. The death is believed to be the result of domestic violence.
